Time ticks by regardless of who we are and what we do. It shows no bias towards our accomplishments, failures, or age. We cannot pause it or slow it down for the sake of savoring the moment. Time passes before we are ready, and not soon enough, though it passes all the same. And so here we are, faced with a brand new year before us. Are you ready to make 2024 count?

It’s easy to get caught up in day-to-day routines only to realize that six months or even a year have flown by. If we were lucky or determined enough, perhaps we made our time worthwhile this past year. And if not? Then maybe we are fortunate enough now to fully recognize and make the most of the time we have.

Let Go

Whether you’re fixated on past circumstances, feeling troubled by what you did or didn’t do, or struggling to come to terms with missed opportunities, we all have things to let go of as we enter the new year. Holding onto life as it was or could have been limits our perspective and creativity to what can be ahead of us.

Admittedly, my Type A personality sometimes has me beating myself up when I’m unable to accomplish my goal within a certain timeframe. I thought our 52 Experiences in 52 Weeks were a touch ambitious, but Brian and I were up for the challenge.

Our schedules couldn’t accommodate all of the experiences we had hoped for. Have I been frustrated and disappointed? Sure have! However, tomorrow is another day. And while we’re not guaranteed tomorrow, we can appreciate all we have done leading up to today.

Let go of beating yourself up. You might not have lost the weight, dropped the bad habit, or made amends with others. However, perhaps simply being aware, accountable, and accepting it as a lesson is enough.

Let go so you can move forward.

Let Live

Control what is only in your control. So often, we think we have the power to change everything in our lives, but we don’t. What we can change is how we think about the situation.

Though we have no control over the world or the people around us, we can, at most, influence others through mentorship or leading by example. In living our own lives without hindering others, we cultivate a profound sense of inner peace. Of course, this is only true in circumstances where there is no harm to body or property.

Focus on what you can control, and strive to let go of the rest. Let the world be what it is and understand that your influence can have some impact, but you alone are unable to control all that happens.

Keep Going

Life can knock you off your feet when you’re least expecting it. Sometimes, life can even seem so hopeless that it unfolds like a predictable domino effect of one tragedy after another. At times, it can feel downright suffocating.

Whatever it is you experience, feel what you’re feeling and keep going. Pick yourself up and just keep going.

I often think about perseverance and how this country and its people built a nation. I think about how those around the world, in different circumstances, find themselves waking to a new day. And I wonder about how people give up and why they give up.

Life isn’t black and white; there are so many layers of gray to navigate through and decipher. Our experiences and lives are all different from one another, but one thing is true: To truly live a full life, one must keep going.

Perseverance requires mental strength and the inherent understanding that life is not fair. Figure out what keeps you going and stick with it. Go back to basics, practice gratitude, set healthy boundaries, and work towards being the best version of yourself.

At some point in your life, you will face heartache, tragedy, and discomfort. It’s all part of the experience! Don’t let it stop you from embracing the time we have. Keep going.

Make 2024 Count

Don’t let time tick by without making the most of it. Rather than aimlessly shifting from one routine to the next, we can enter the new year and move forward with a renewed sense of purpose and peace.

Let go, let live, and keep going. It’s a new year for new experiences; let’s make 2024 count.

Cheers to a worthwhile and happy new year!
