Today’s post is a short and sweet tribute to my dear old backpack. After nearly 10 years of regular, heavy use, my beloved Osprey Comet Daypack suffered a tear where the left strap met the bottom back panel. It seems that our last adventure through Japan took its toll. Thankfully, it tore as we were returning home, revealing only a sliver of its contents while keeping the rest of my stuff safe and sound as we made our way back. It was time for a repair!
One-Bag Travel
If you’ve been a regular here, then you’re likely familiar with my appreciation for simplicity. I’m not one to be tied down to much of anything, and that includes extra baggage! In the past, I’ve traveled with standard carry-on suitcases and have even checked luggage with Southwest, back when they still offered free checked bags.
As I took on more trips, I began to realize how my baggage was weighing me down. That’s when I decided to downsize to what would become my trusty Osprey.
Disclaimer: I’m not sponsored by Osprey in any way. These are my personal thoughts and experiences!
One-bag travel with my backpack has given me more freedom, allowing me to:
Simplify packing.
Move quickly.
Streamline security and boarding.
Better navigate crowded spaces.
Easily take detours.
Adapt to travel plans or changes on-the-go.
Capitalize on no-frills, low-cost flights.
This Osprey bag has been my sidekick on numerous road trips, getaways across the country, and adventures abroad. Needless to say, it’s an important investment to me.
Why Osprey?
Honestly, I became a fan of Osprey by accident. While exploring different options, I didn’t feel particularly attached to the brand. What mattered most to Brian and me was finding a comfy, sturdy backpack capable of keeping our belongings organized. We discovered Osprey while browsing at REI and liked the selection enough that we decided to search for discounted options elsewhere.
I snagged my Comet 24/7 Series Daypack from Amazon Warehouse Deals (now called Amazon Resale) at more than 50% off the original price. What a steal! Pre-owned in “Like New” condition, this backpack seemed virtually untouched.
With its well-padded straps, supportive back panel, and dedicated laptop compartment, this bag has truly been a lifesaver, offering plenty of storage and organization for our travels. It’s perfectly sized to hold over two weeks’ worth of essentials when packed to the brim. Yet, it remains compact enough to downsize and qualify as a ‘personal item’ on low-cost carriers. I am a huge fan of its versatility. Though it’s modestly sized at 30L and has an understated design, it’s exactly what I’m looking for in a backpack.
With almost a decade of consistent use, I’ve grown fond of its trusted durability and functional features that keep me organized on every trip. Sadly, I’ve learned that this particular model is now discontinued…
Osprey’s All Mighty Guarantee
Ironically, there’s a running joke between Brian and me: every time I love something, it inevitably gets discontinued. I’ve learned to roll with it over the years. Fortunately, I wasn’t looking to replace my Osprey; instead, I was hoping to get it repaired.
I breathed a sigh of relief when I discovered Osprey’s impressive warranty. It was a refreshing change from the lackluster warranties offered by most companies. Osprey’s All Mighty Guarantee really stands out from the rest, as it’s a true commitment to quality and sustainability.
As highlighted on their website:
Osprey is committed to ensuring our products withstand the test of time. Torn piece of fabric? Worn-out buckle? Broken zipper? Whatever the damage, we’ll repair or replace it at no cost—whether your bag was produced in 1974 or yesterday.
I felt confident that my bag only required a repair, but it’s reassuring to know that Osprey would replace it with the same or a similar product, regardless of when it was manufactured or whether it’s been discontinued.
To complete the repair request, I had to:
Create an account on their website.
Provide the product details.
Specify the location of the damage.
Upload a photo of the damage.
What sets Osprey’s warranty apart is that there’s no need for a receipt or proof of purchase. I bought the Comet 24/7 Series Daypack secondhand online, but I could have just as easily picked it up at a garage sale or received it as a gift. Either way, Osprey would still stand behind their product and get me back on the road with a fully functioning bag.
That kind of trust made it an easy decision to move forward with my repair request. While I had to pay the $21.56 shipping cost to mail my bag, Osprey would cover the rest, including any repairs or replacements and return shipping.
A Happy Customer
From beginning to end, I found the repair process to be super easy and efficient. I received automated e-mails at each stage, including return instructions, confirmation that my bag had been received, and an update once the repair was complete, along with a return tracking number.
I was initially informed that the repair would take 6 to 10 weeks, so I was blown away when my good-as-new Osprey Daypack arrived just 2.5 weeks after I sent it in. Can you believe it?
I’m beyond thrilled to have my trusty backpack in working order. Kudos to Osprey for not only restoring my gear but also for providing top-notch service. The experience exceeded my expectations, and I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another Osprey product in the future.
Although I first adopted minimalism out of necessity, it has since become a lifestyle that has improved every aspect of my life. It’s a natural expectation that minimalism would result in less wasteful spending and fewer possessions. Yet, I didn’t
Much to our surprise, our loosely planned road trip turned into a smooth-sailing Point A to Point B experience. Brian and I had our doubts, especially as we’d been brainstorming activities for each day the evening before. These last-second arrangements
Brian and I booked a two-night trip simply to use The Edit credit from our Chase Sapphire Reserve, a premium benefit that elevates exclusive hotel stays with free upgrades, dining credits, and other special perks. We wanted a low-key stay
When I worked for a well-known major communications company, they decided that the company would no longer provide desktop workstations for the office but, instead, issued laptop computers, which we had to carry home every evening. To do that they also issued backpacks to carry them. These turned out to be poorly made and many were turned in as damaged. This from simply carrying a laptop and accompanying cables every day. I’m glad for my Osprey backpack, it would run circles around the stuff my company provided.
Gah! You’d think a company would invest in higher-quality bags to protect their employees’ laptops better. But what do I know?! I’m glad to hear you like your Osprey too! Thank goodness for the padded laptop compartment—it’s kept my laptop safe and sound, even when my bag is bursting at the seams!
